I’m amazed at how Jesus enters our every day with such gentle compassion. As I sat on the screened porch, the door to the house gently opened, and the cool breeze from the living room swept over me. At 8:00 a.m., it was already 80 degrees. The breeze came at just the right time. The verse on my meditation app was about the disciple Thomas and his declaration that he would not believe that Jesus arose unless he saw and touched him. A week passed, and Jesus entered the closed door to the room they were all hiding in and just appeared. Thomas touched Him and believed. Jesus tells him, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”
I love how Jesus just appeared in this passage. No locked doors or doubting hearts will keep Him away. He enters into our lives softly and tenderly. Who is this Jesus? I’ve been in companionship with HIm since I was 12 or 13 years old. His love overwhelms me, and I find that I discover more about Him with each season or transition in my life. I feel His love cover me in ways that bring enteral hope and peace even when things would cause me to be like Thomas and doubt. I know He is okay with this and will keep appearing and showing up in my broken, closed places.
I meditate on today’s song by Caroline Cobb, “Who is this Jesus?” I went to her website to find that at about the same age I discovered Jesus, she began to write songs about Him. You can find the lyrics, song, and more about her on this link.
This song will lift you and remind you who He is.
