The Power of Listening and Divine Encounters

In moments of quiet reflection, it’s often easy to overlook the subtle ways in which God speaks to us. It’s in these soft whispers of the heart that we find guidance, love, and purpose. My recent experience with a simple letter has profoundly reminded me of this truth and the incredible power of listening.

The journey of this letter began with a verse that struck a chord deep within me, Psalm 136:26: “Give thanks to the God of heaven, for His steadfast love endures forever.” Inspired, I decided to write a letter, not knowing who it would eventually reach but trusting that it would find its way to the right person at the perfect time. This letter, crafted during a family craft session, prominently featured the word “listen” on its front. Little did I know how significant this single word would become.

This letter, embodying a message of listening to God’s direction and embracing His steadfast love, embarked on an unexpected journey. It found itself tucked away, seemingly lost, only to resurface weeks later, just in time for a training I was to attend. It was here, in a quiet corner of the venue, that the divine plan for this letter unfolded. Arriving early to avoid traffic, I prayed for God to lead the person who needed to feel God’s love to sit next to me. As if answering my prayers, a person sat next to me, and what followed was a heartfelt conversation that felt divinely orchestrated. He shared his story of facing a significant decision, guided by a clear message from God – a narrative that paralleled the essence of my letter.

The moment I handed him the letter, our connection deepened. The words “listen” and the message of God’s enduring love resonated with him, touching his heart in a way that only something meant to be could. Our shared tears and smiles in that moment were a testament to God’s loving presence and guidance. This encounter didn’t just end with exchanging a letter; it blossomed into a spiritual companionship as we became prayer partners, further exploring and sharing God’s work in our lives. Reflecting on this experience, I am reminded of the mysterious and wondrous ways God moves. It’s a vivid illustration of the power of listening – not just to the words spoken to us but to the silent call of our hearts, guided by divine love. This journey has not only blessed another soul but has also enriched mine, reinforcing my desire to continue sharing God’s love and being open to the love others offer. As I look forward to more opportunities to spread kindness and love, I hold onto the lesson of listening, being patient, and trusting in the divine timing. May we all be instruments of God’s love, ready to listen and act when He calls us to be a beacon of His light in someone else’s life.

WOW! Before I could hit publish, I got a text from a friend who I wanted to call this morning. I felt God say to call her as I was praying for her. She needed to talk about personal and work tasks, and together, we were able to uplift each other and figure things out. We closed our time with a prayer. Keep the connections coming, God, and allow space for joy.

In the quiet of dawn, I walked alone,

Where water met the shore, and in rhythm, it shone.

Ripples danced upon the serene lake’s face,

A testament to God’s unfailing grace.

The shoreline, a guardian, steadfast and sure, holding back the waters, pure and demure.

In and out, the waves whispered to the sand,

A divine melody, a heavenly band.

These ripples, like God’s love, reach far and wide,

Casting kindness into the world, a tide.

Each wave, a gentle nudge, a soft caress,

Embracing all in warmth, in love’s sweet dress.

As I pondered this sight, so calm and bright,

I saw God’s creation in a new light.

His love, like ripples, endlessly extends,

A cascade of grace that never ends.

So, let us cast our love into the deep,

Awake the world from its indifferent sleep.

Like ripples on the water, may our deeds,

Spread kindness and love, fulfilling needs.

For in each act of love, we echo Him,

Creating ripples that reach beyond the brim.

His steadfast love, in creation we see,

Calls us to love, live, and let our hearts be free.
