Exploring Fulfillment of God’s Word in Our Lives

I wanted to return to John Chapter 6, specifically verse 60: “This is very hard to understand. How can anyone accept it?” This response was directed to Jesus after a teaching that went against their beliefs and understanding. It was too far-fetched for them to believe, and they could not grasp the more profound meaning. This stood out to me, and I asked in my notes, “What has God done in our lives previously through His teachings, and now, He has fulfilled it in a different way–more complete?” They were listening to Jesus talk about His flesh and blood, when they had not experienced the fulfillment of the cross and resurrection.

I’m still answering this question. I’m always amazed at what we will set our minds on to believe and to offer understanding and peace, claiming that we just can’t accept this God.

I reflected on God’s teachings about faith, marriage, and the Fruit of the Spirit. (The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.) Over the years, as I’ve experienced loss, joy, and many years of marriage and parenting, I’ve come to recognize the fulfillment of His Word in my life. You understand gentleness when you are called to be gentle in a situation that is filled with chaos. You know peace when you are struggling with anxiety. You understand a covenant when you’ve been married for over 35 years. You understand self-control when you are parenting a child. The understanding is created through the trials when we seek knowledge through His love and Word.

I believe there is a deeper meaning to what I’m seeking from God, and I know through faith that God will show me in my daily walk. How would you answer the question? If we were sitting over coffee, I’d listen with curiosity. I’d love to hear from you.
