“Often when external blessing seems to elude us, internal spiritual gifts come tumbling our direction. Sometimes–not always but sometimes–it takes being in the worst shape of your life to see and hear the Lord.” Priscilla Shirer
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (I John 4:8)
I heard a song by Brandon Heath called, “Love Never Fails”. The song touched my soul work in the area of loving when loving is hard.
When my heart won’t make a sound
When I can’t turn back around
When the sky is falling down
Nothing is greater than this
Greater than this
Love is right here
Love is alive
Love is the way
The truth the life
Our world functions on a reciprocity of actions–a paycheck, a service rendered, relationships of serve and receive, and Newton’s third law of “for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction”.
What if we truly understood the love of Christ? Jesus does not demand you to be perfect so that He can love you. He loves you right where you are in the moment or circumstance you find yourself in. It is there that He can do the internal work–the spiritual gifts that Priscilla shared within her Bible study.
When you can’t turn back and you are unsure of your future, Love is right there–alive, showing you the way, the truth, and God’s love IS life, for He is love.
I recently met with a parent. Her child is working in counseling on how to forgive and love when it seems humanly impossible. Her child is in detention right now searching and seeking. In fact, amazingly, she spoke the very area in which God was sharing with me in Bible study. Unreal for God to confirm this through a child by way of the parent.
I want so much for my daughters to understand this kind of love. A love that provides a safe haven for them through the work of Jesus, and, one day, that they would build their marriage on this type of love. It’s the kind of love that serves without expectation of an “equal reaction”. It’s understanding the remarkable differences within each of us and how we view the world around us, so I don’t expect you to reason and think like I do–I am patient and understanding. It’s forgiving and moving forward, perhaps with unanswered questions and hurt, and extending grace. It’s knowing that no matter where you lay your head at night, love is there–always there–because God IS love, and He is right beside you–always (Deuteronomy 31:6) God’s love is with the child in detention. He does not withhold or have favorites. God IS love. His love is healing and rids you of questioning motives, judging others, and self-loathing. God’s love is freedom.
When we grasp this kind of love–not worldly love–we will truly know God. One day we will truly know this love with perfection
Love is the river that
Love is the arms that are holding you
Love is the place you will fly to
Love never fails you
I hope you can take the time to listen to the song:
