Little Things with Great Love

“His kindness rains like water on every humble seed….”

This is a line from a treasured song that is often played from my Pray as You Go app.

The song is called “Little Things With Great Love”

In an overwhelmingly complex world, I find that the little things are the most important. The smile. The hug. The showing up.

How do you spend your thoughts and energy when in the moment? Do you avoid, shut down, or run ahead to the next thing, agitated or numb?

How do we stay present? It focuses on the belief that little things with great love matter most. Even if you don’t see or feel the return on your investment each time, there are days you reflect back or see a picture, and your heart remembers. In that knowing, you build hope and resilience.

Recognize them…

Write them down…

Keep a gratitude journal…

Or, mentally shut your eyes and reflect on the little things you were involved in throughout the day. How would the day be different if the gesture or word did not happen? What could you have done differently?

Stephen Covey calls them “contributions.” The Gottmans call them “simple gestures.” They so deeply matter.

I have a friend who has an app that can take pictures and record her “moments.” Whatever works for you, just do it! The point is to move from list-making to memory reflection and action steps.

Here are just a few of mine…

Believing in love and being there for a surprise engagement! My friend Whitney and her boyfriend invited Parish and me to come along on a sailing trip! Little did we know that we would be right there in the middle of LOVE–little things turning into a big engagement celebration! Forever grateful for this experience and their generosity of time and memories made together.

Attending your local plays with your adult child and laughing. Dressing up in pink together.

My dad’s love for our dog Bradley, who is eating oyster crackers in heaven with him 🙂 I loved seeing the picture taken so long ago pop up on my social media.

Text with quotes and letters from friends you keep because they touched your heart.

Volunteering during grandparent story time

Lighting a candle and noticing the pictures and gifts surrounding the light.
