We’ve sectioned the Capital Trail to enjoy it in chunks. Today we parked our car at the Chickahominy Riverfront Park in Charles City, VA. Typical of our day, we started later than we had hoped, but we were able to head out by 1:30. With an hour drive there, we enjoyed the scenery along the way, and the weather was good! We were thankful for no rain! The park has restrooms and ample parking. We rode our bikes to check out the campground and noticed they had “glamping tents” available. They also have a pool with a lifeguard on duty.

From the park, we rode our bikes to Jamestown, noticing there was another trail to veer off on for later adventures. The beautiful countryside, farms, and houses brought such delight and joy. From Jamestown, we went to the “loop,” which took our breath away!
In all my years of visiting Jamestown, I had never experienced the Island Loop. At one point, we saw the ferry returning to Jamestown.

Another fun stop near the area is Billsburg Brewery, which seemed to be the locals’ favorite spot and sits on the water. They have ample seating outdoors and inside. Some folks brought their chairs to enjoy sitting in grassy spots under the trees. They also had food trucks.
Along the trail, we saw deer! Not the best video, but I kept it for the memory.
Upon our return to the park to get our car and load the bikes, we decided to cross the bridge halfway for fun. They have a bike lane just for those traveling the Capital Trail and needing to cross the bridge.

We got home around 8:00 P.M. We would definitely repeat this bike adventure again and spend more time on the Island Loop.
