York River State Park & Richmond Adventure on E-Bikes

This weekend was a holiday weekend, so we had more time to explore. After teaching on Saturday morning, we went out to York River State Park! A scenic drive from Chesterfield and ample parking with a visitor’s center to get your trail maps. We consistently ask the rangers and workers what the best trails are for E-bikes. Mountain bike trails are too rough on the bikes and our bottom. πŸ™‚

We are so blessed to live in a State with so many parks! This park did not disappoint with its beauty, being on the river’s edge. The only item to be aware of is that they do not have camping facilities, and the paths are rough in some places–roots, sand (that was interesting), and rain damage. It made for an interesting time, and it was worth it.

Parish and I love to sing while we ride, or select a song that describes our journey. It’s a fun way to connect. We sang some Eagle songs -great for harmony, and he played a funny song (Blur – Song 2; specifically the line “Woo-Hoo” ) for the time we spent in the sand, swerving on our bikes. We stopped at Joe’s Inn on the way home for breakfast. They serve breakfast all day! This was the place we had our first date in 1987 at VCU. The fan Joe’s is the best!

On Sunday, we decided to go to Richmond! We started off at Tredgar Ironworks, then got on the path to Brown’s Island, crossing the bridge to head to Reedy Creek parking lot, then road to Forest Hill Park, and rode the trails for this park, which were in great condition and paved. I stopped to do Yoga over Zoom with a friend while Parish rode the area of Forest Hill. We rode our bikes to Casa Del Barco for dinner. They have a great avocado bowl, and we added shrimp. Across from the restaurant was an event going on with music; it was fun to watch everyone walk up the sidewalk and over the bridge to the event, all dressed up!
