The Word of God is Power!

Continuing in our family Bible study time last night after some yummy peach cobbler, we found beautiful treasures in God’s Word!

I hope you will consider purchasing the CD and booklet for your family.  I love Sharon’s approach of detail in God’s Word, personal examples, and to the point.  My children were captivated by the study even though it was only CD–her voice.  Today we are so used to multimedia.  The time around the table with paper and pen, Bible, and a good solid teaching has been refreshing.

On a very personal note, I have been struggling with “connecting” .  I’m in such transition in so many areas, I feel disconnected.  That’s an unsettling feeling that can cause many fearful thoughts and frustrations.  I’ve been in church worshiping, listening to the Word, giving and just felt like I was going through the motions.  Loving Jesus but feeling like dry toast on the inside.

This study has been an answer to prayer not only for me and my walk with God but for our family to reconnect in the name of Jesus and the power of His WORD!

Here are some treasures from Sharon’s Study last night:

  • The Bible is our foundation for all things.
  • When I’m not in the Word of God I become powerless.
  • God’s Word is relevant today.  The Holy Spirit is faithful to reveal truth to our personal situation.
  • His Word has the power to calm my anxious heart and mind, change my perspective and give me hope of eternity, remind me of His amazing love for me, keep me from sin, and remind me that He desires good things for me–an abundant life!

My teenager loved the verses from Romans 6: 12-14.  Specifically we concentrated on not offering your body to Satan to indulge in sin–things that hurt us– but to offer our entire bodies to God for righteous things! (that’s her wording).

My littlest one led us all to Psalm 112.  I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you can savor this passage!  I’ve always been a combination of Pooh and Piglet–whimsical and fearful!  How about this approach to life–talk about POWER!  I’ve highlighted some amazing words that spoke to me, and I’m claiming them!

Psalm 112

Praise the Lord.

Blessed are those who fear the Lord,
who find great delight in his commands.

Their children will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
Wealth and riches are in their houses,
and their righteousness endures forever.
Even in darkness light dawns for the upright,
for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.
Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely,
who conduct their affairs with justice.

Surely the righteous will never be shaken;
they will be remembered forever.
They will have no fear of bad news;
    their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear;

Can you imagine your life with NO FEAR of bad news because your heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord?  The passage gives a whole new perspective on the slogan:  No Fear!

In closing, we all agreed that if God’s Word was our reality we would live life with more assurance, courage, better self-esteem (not worried what others think of me), and not for want.

Jesus may today I put aside all the things of the world that so easily entangle me.  Help me to trust in the TRUTH and POWER of Your Word.  I will fear not, trust more, and rest in your amazing grace.

Write this verse in II Peter Chapter 1:3-4 on a card and remind yourself every day of the truth and power of God’s Word:

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
