Even Now

Do you put periods in your prayers or use conjunctions?  Check this verse out from Martha concerning her brother Lazarus who had been dead for four days.

FOUR DAYS!  DEAD!

“Lord,…if you had been here, my brother would not have died.  But I know that EVEN NOW God will give you whatever you ask.”

The word BUT is the most amazing miracle of this verse.  What if Martha had just ended the conversation with Jesus at died?  I’ve always been amazed at this true story in the Bible and The Circle Maker relating this story to our prayer life was moving to me. How many times do we lament to God (and He really is okay with that) but linger there so long we avoid, or maybe we are afraid to claim His promises?  We don’t say BUT!  Or things like EVEN NOW – I love those two words!

  • My child is rebellious Lord, but even now, today I know you can reach them.
  • My marriage is suffering Lord, but even now, today I know you can heal.
  • The doctor says I have cancer, but even now, Lord, today you can bring healing.

“REJOICE IN OUR CONFIDENT HOPE. BE PATIENT IN TROUBLE, AND KEEP ON PRAYING.”  Romans 12:12

You know the danger in reading Christian books like the Circle Maker?  We hurry over the part in the book in which the author shares how long it took their prayers to come to fruition.  You read the chapter and in about 10 pages or less, WOW! He was healed, the church was built, the money came in!  NO!  It took 15 years for that crack house to become a coffee-house church in Washington D.C. Mark Batterson prayed for 15 years!  Once he knew that the house would become a coffee-house he prayed 8 years with that knowledge. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.  During that wait time, God produced a stronger prayer warrior, and protected them from many things.  He took our love for coffee and coffee-houses and turned it into a Java House of God!  In this building you can get some coffee, but you also will be having church! 🙂  (A link to their coffee-house:  http://ebenezerscoffeehouse.com/)

Ebenezer’s Coffee House (It used to be a crack house!)

As we live life unoffended (previous post) we can rejoice in our confident hope (fresh encounters with Jesus) and pray through.   God’s Word is a beautiful love letter to us, and it is meant not only to study, but also to use as a prayer tool.  Pray through the Bible. When you use the Bible to pray through you are uttering the very Words of GOD!  Pray with me….

Psalm 91

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
    will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.”

OH GOD, TODAY MAY I DWELL IN THE SHELTER OF YOUR LOVE AND REST IN YOU.  MAY YOUR PRESENCE OVERSHADOW ME. LORD I PROCLAIM RIGHT NOW THAT YOU ARE MY REFUGE AND MY FORTRESS, AND I WILL ONLY TRUST IN YOU AND YOUR PROMISES.

Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare
    and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

DEAR GOD THERE SEEMS TO BE TROUBLE AND CONFUSION ALL AROUND ME.  SAVE ME!  GUIDE ME! COVER ME LORD WITH YOUR FEATHERS LIKE A MOTHER BIRD TO HER BABIES.  LET ME HIDE IN YOU, UNDER YOUR CARE. I LOOK BACK ON ALL YOU’VE DONE FOR ME AND YOUR FAITHFULNESS WILL BE MY PROTECTING SHIELD TODAY AND MY RAMPART!
You will not fear the terror of night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
    nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
    and see the punishment of the wicked.

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
    and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
    no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
    so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
    you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

LORD I WILL NOT FEAR!  YOU HAVE ANGELS WATCHING OVER ME AND MY FAMILY!  THANK YOU JESUS! PRAISE GOD!  LORD, MAYBE IN THOSE DAYS THEY WORRIED ABOUT DIFFERENT THINGS.  TODAY WE CAN KNOW AND APPLY YOUR WORD TO THE FEARS OF OUR DAY AND KNOW YOU WILL PROTECT US AND SHOW US THE WAY. LORD, RIGHT NOW I ASK YOU TO GIVE ME WISDOM IN ____________________________.  AND LORD, I PRAY DEEPLY FOR ____________________________________________.

14 “Because he[b] loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation.”

LORD THANK YOU THAT YOU ARE WITH ME WHEN “I’M IN TROUBLE” AND THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ME EACH DAY YOUR SALVATION!  I LOVE YOU JESUS! AMEN!
