If you read my post about treading water, you discovered my desire to locate my scuba instructor from 1983! I found him! I thought you might enjoy reading our correspondence. Who can you reach out to today to say “thank you” or “you made a difference”?
I was 17 years old in 1983 and attended the Hawaii Preparatory Academy under your tutelage for scuba diving certification. I’m 55 years old now. Many years have passed since I rode that bus to the ocean to learn how to scuba dive. I remember the experience often when life brings me challenges. I hope you know what a difference you made in my life and so many others through the years. I wrote about my experience with you and treading water. I so needed a strong mentor who was also kind and held high standards. Thank you.

It’s so good to hear that you are doing well and still teaching! I got your email from the school’s Facebook page through a private message.
Do you still have summer sessions or opportunities for folks to come and learn? I hope you’ll take note of the pictures and the letter I kept from you.
Thanks again and may you be blessed!
It is so nice to hear from you and to know that something I did in the past had a positive impact. To say that I clearly remember that summer would be a bit of a stretch, but I do remember working in the cove and traveling in the “wep-truck”for many years. I am not teaching scuba now (stopped about 3 years ago) but my daughter Laura has taken over… she is much kinder but no less of a task-master! I am pleased that everything has worked out over the last 30+ years.. based on your signature block, it appears that you have had a wonderful career helping and educating others.Thank you also for sharing your blog post… fun and meaningful reading! If you ever come back to Hawaii, please stop by HPA and say hello! PS: I just celebrated my 50th year at the school… where does the time go?Sharing the note I wrote to you did bring back wonderful memories!!!
