Establishing Our Footsteps in TRUTH

There is a movie series entitled Love Come’s Softly by Janette Oke.

For Christmas one year, we purchased the DVD set that is based on her books.  I think we’ve watched each DVD at least ten times or more.  There is one scene in which a family, who is living out west, has no local church or pastor; so they have church around their kitchen table each Sunday.  The farm hands attend along with the children and anyone passing by for a visit.  Our society has come a long way since that time.  We have easy access to churches.  In my community there is an intersection where there are four churches at an intersection.  You could literally walk to each church like a food court in the mall.  In my 19 years of living in this community, I have been in each church at some point for some reason.

What about God’s Word–The Bible?

If you are scanning this post for highlights, please take one moment to ask your heart and soul–What about God’s Word?  Do I make it a  routine to consult with His Word, or do I seek advice from talk shows, self-help books, and/or friends?  Do I truly believe what John chapter one says–The Word was/is Jesus!  Jesus came for our salvation.  His message was Him–He was and is the living and active representation of God’s Word!  When you hold the Bible in your hands, you are holding Jesus close.  When you read the Bible to answer life questions, Jesus is talking to you and taking care of your situation. It’s hard work.  It means that my answers may be challenged, and I have to change.  It’s freeing!  I don’t have to figure out this world–Jesus has already done that for me.

Beautiful truths from God’s Word:

Psalm 119:133  Direct my footsteps according to your word;
let no sin rule over me.

Psalm 119:160  All your words are true;
all your righteous laws are eternal.

Hebrews 4:12  For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Our family sat around the dinner table last night and listened to an inspiring message from Sharon Thomas, Established Footsteps.  The 8 session devotional is on establishing the truth of God’s Word and making this Truth a daily part of your life.  We have become illiterate children of God when it comes to God’s Word.  When trouble arises, we need to ask, “What does God’s Word say about _____________?” vs. I think_____________ or feel ____________________.

We each selected a verse to concentrate on until the next session.  Mine was Hebrews 4:12.  In further study, I discovered the meaning of soul and spirit and joints and marrow.  We have our physical and spiritual being.  His Word penetrates and literally “kills” our flesh so that we can become more like Christ (soul).  It penetrates not only our “flesh” desires but all the way to the joints and marrow–the very center of our bones.  Taking that one step further, think of how your blood is made in the marrow of your bones.  His blood that was spilled for you –His very Word –can penetrate and flow through you–consume you and keep you alive in Him!  What a visual.  His Word is truly ACTIVE and ALIVE.  If we hunger for His Word, we can be sure and trust that His Word will judge our thoughts and attitudes.  His Word brings us peace, joy in the midst of it all, and most importantly an assurance that in the end His Word will stand. His Word IS Truth!

His Word is our only Hope.
