Awe Struck

Awe:

An emotion variously combining dread, veneration, and wonder that is inspired by authority or by the sacred…

Cynicism:

An attitude of scornful or jaded negativity, especially a general distrust of the integrity or professed motives of others…

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

Stop and think about that last time you felt awe-struck! I heard Dr. Jeremiah ask this question as he gave examples.  One example was Christmas morning as a child. I began to go back in my memory and recall the times I was overwhelmed with awe and wonderment. As the message went on, women agreed with him that holding your newborn baby for the first time would be at the top of the list!  Oh yes!  I can feel, smell, and go there–sweet baby fingers, toes, and giggles.

When is the last time you were God struck?  So taken aback by His presence in worship that you never wanted to leave that moment?

Cynicism is so easy to wear because it seems to be the mode of operation.  Politics, jobs, friendships, churches–it’s there.  There will always be sin in the world.  Sin sounds like the word Cynicism.  It’s a conscious choice to hear joy, see beauty, cultivate peace, and speak in gentle-kindness.  God’s Word tells us that a soft or gentle response will deter anger and arguments.

It’s a choice to be in awe of the One who can do these things through HIS strength.  The first verse of the Bible is “God created the heavens and the earth.”  Stay there–in that simple but awe inspiring verse!  Do you truly believe that God created the heavens-your eternal home, and the earth–your “just passing through” home?  Can you imagine yourself on the other side looking across the vast creation of the universe standing with Him in all His glory? I don’t think the word awe can describe that moment!

It’s a choice to be jaded, negative, and distrusting.  I have to go back to another post of helping the enemy be “the accuser of the brethren”.   Are we helping the enemy with his job when we spread cynicism and sarcasm?

I heard this beautiful song by Matt Redman early one morning that made me stand in awe of our Creator!  I hope you can start your day off by being God-struck!  I love that someone wrote the words in another language.  If you want to read the lyrics it’s after the video!  Such a beautiful song.  You are fearfully and wonderfully made!  Amen!

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made by Matt Redman

So fearfully and wonderfully made,
How could they say there is no God?
Reminded every breath that I take,
It´s by Your hand I have been formed
So what am I going to do with this life You gave me?
What could I do but live for Your praise? You gave me this breath,
And You gave me this strength,
And every day I’ll live to obey You.
With all of my heart,
With all of my soul;
Let every breath I’m breathing display You God.There´s elegance in all you create
Your grand designs leave us amazed.
The wonders of the way we’ve been made
Speak of Your power, tell of Your grace.
So what am I going to do with this life You gave me?
What could I do but live for Your praise? So what am I going to do with this life You gave me?
What am I going to do with this life?
What am I going to do in these days You’ve ordained?
What am I going to do with this life?
