I Love Your Voice

The darkness is an interesting place to experience. Gazing up at the night sky, the vast darkness gives us the glorious opportunity to see the stars and the brightness of the moon. Adelaide still talks about how Ace (her grandfather), showed her the stars and named them while we were visiting a state park. Standing on the cliff at the cabin, we looked up at the night sky and marveled at His handiwork.  I’ve always been fascinated by our human experiences that only exist because the opposite of that experience also is possible. We would not know the depths of joy unless we also have truly experienced sorrow. How could we experience the triumph of victory without pain, practice, and failure?

So it is with God’s Word in my life. His love is audaciously unconditional, and His grace unending. His Word is a light for my path.

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. — Psalm 119:105

I woke up this morning and headed downstairs to make coffee and fill out Father’s Day cards. I was struck by the smallest amount of light peeking through my window and finding its way through the darkness to shine it’s light onto my sunflowers.

This conversation with my Father has occurred many times before.

I have a new worship song in my heart these days. I play it over and over. As my friend would say, “That’s a song you put on repeat!”  One of the lines is “I love your voice.”

I came back to this post 10 minutes later to add this from my mom. I’m upstairs writing, and she’s outside worshiping. She took a picture of the light shining on our home with a message of God’s love pouring into our home. “Take a walk, Anna!” See how God connects us, loves us, and lifts us up?!  All my life, “He has been so, so good!”

Oh how His voice has become so familiar through the years. He reminded me of His tender voice this morning as He pointed out His light piercing through the darkness and illuminating the sunflowers. His light will pierce through your darkest moments and reveal the beauty from the ashes of your pain.

“With every breath that I am able, I will sing of the goodness of God.”

My life is a testimony of singing from the ashes and believing that the beauty will come in His time. It’s as if God was saying to me, “Anna, yes I see the darkness in your life right now, but remember my light, remember my promises, and remember my Word.”

You have led me through the fire
And in darkest night You are close like no other
I’ve known You as a Father
I’ve known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God.

I’m blessed to still have my earthly father with me. He has prayed our family through the fire. On this day, Father’s Day, I honor the man who showed me the love of my heavenly Father, and I lift my hands in praise to the goodness of God.

I hope you can spend time listening to this beautiful worship song that has arrested my mind and heart in the darkest of days and lifted me up by His love and grace. Lyrics follow the video.

Goodness of God

I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never failed me
All my days, I’ve been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
And all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
And in darkest night You are close like no other
I’ve known You as a Father
I’ve known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God, yeah!
And all my life You have been faithful, oh
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God, yeah!
‘Cause Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
With my life laid down, I’m surrendered now
I give You everything
‘Cause Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me, oh-oh
‘Cause Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
With my life laid down, I’m surrendered now
I give You everything
‘Cause Your goodness is running after, it keeps running after me
And all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I’m gonna sing of the goodness of God
I’m gonna sing, I’m gonna sing
‘Cause all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I’m gonna sing of the goodness of God
Oh, I’m gonna sing of the goodness of God
