I was waiting for an event in the quiet of the room. I closed my eyes and began to sing old hymns from my childhood. As I worshipped in song, I would stop and say a prayer. What amazed me with this meditation preparation is that people who mentored me or loved me came to my mind and I would say a prayer of gratitude. I also felt their mentoring spirit in my situation and their presence.
“I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold. I’d rather be His than have riches untold. I rather have Jesus than world wide fame. I’d rather be true to His holy name.”
Lord help me to desire you above all else. I’m not really interested in riches and fame. God I want to desire you above my problems and list of things to do and have faith that you are in control.
“I come to the garden alone while the dew is still on the roses. And the voice I hear falling on my ear the Son of God discloses. And, He walks with me and He talks with me. And, He tells me I am His own. And the joy we share as we tarry there none other has ever known.”
Lord, thank you for my aunts, mom, and grandma Pierce who worshiped you “in the garden”. Their love for your flowers and planting brings me such joy. I imagine them walking in their gardens, talking to you, and, Lord, thank you for Godly women in my life.
Oh daddy–I see you in heaven with great joy! I will be with you one day and we will “tarry there” in great, perfect joy! Thank you for ministering to me right now.
“Victory in Jesus my Savior forever. He sought me and bought me with His redeeming love…”
I remember you. All the teachers, preachers, and prayer warriors in my life. You’ve prayed me on to victory!
“Softly and Tenderly Jesus is calling. Calling for you and for me…..”
My sweet Polly. You loved this song so much and witnessed to so many people through your music. Thank you for the gift of song.
Lastly, as verses of the Bible came to my mind I would sing them aloud creating my own worship song in the moment. The presence of the Holy Spirit prepared my heart and mind for the event.
In the quiet of your day, I encourage you to try this meditation. What songs bring you joy and minister to you? Sing them. No need to play the song! Use your voice! Pause and reflect and ask God to minister to you.
My ad lib song:
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Let my mind be renewed by your Word. I will fix my eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of my life! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
I took a quick recording of the song! I added a picture of my mom and me when we had a mother/daughter time in Petersburg! I love you mom! Thank you for always praying and sharing your faith! I love our smiles. We had a great, happy day together.
Thank you Anna.

Ashley! I listened to a podcast about how humming and singing helps to calm and supports the vagus nerve. Thank you.

Wow, thanks awesome! It reminds me how God cares for us when we obey his Word. For it says make a joyful noise into the Lord and the vagus nerve runs throughout the whole body.
