Mettle

Mettle: a person’s ability to cope well with difficulties or to face a demanding situation in a spirited and resilient way.
synonyms: spiritfortitude, strength of character, moral fiber, steeldetermination,resolveresolutionbackbonegrit, true grit, courage, courageousness,braveryvalor, fearlessness, daring;

I love words.  I love learning the definition of words.  Last night, God gave my husband and I the greatest gift–a restaurant with tables surrounded by bookcases.  As we were eating, he found Charles Dickens and I found a great devotional study.  We shared.

The book conveyed the mettle of Jesus when faced with severe odds and temptation.  He was in the desert, right after being baptized, and the enemy tempted him.  Jesus met his hunger and thirst as well as temptation with mettle.

Often we have a general knowledge of a word, but as soon as my husband and I looked up the deeper meaning of mettle–I smiled.  It was my prayer for anyone who desired to get out of their comfort zone and risk it all for Jesus.

I’m good at muddling through and pushing through.  Got that down.  What I’m crying out for is to be a woman of steel, determination, resolve, grit, courage, bravery, valor, fearless, daring–all of these– with a spirited and resilient character.

Spirited–His Spirit living in me…..

Trusting that His Spirit can do these things in our lives if we only but ask, trust, and take action…..
