Kootenai Falls and Sandpoint: A Must-Visit Getaway

On our way to Sandpoint, Idaho!

We plan to stop at Kootenai Falls and the Swinging Bridge, which will be our halfway mark. After that, we’ll head to Sandpoint for check-in at our Airbnb. Once we’re settled in, we plan to walk to the main street area to explore and soak up the town’s vibe. We had a famous Idaho potato (Spuds Waterfront Grill) that was so large we could share it. Then we walked to the beach to enjoy the water before heading to a well-known local spot (Eichardt’s) to watch a popular blues-and-jazz band. They were spectacular, showcasing exceptional talent with saxophones, harmonicas, keyboard, guitar, and drums. The venue was eccentric, with every corner filled with unique gadgets, artwork, or gimmicks.

Kootenai was glorious!

If you are ever in the area, stop and enjoy! Exceptional trails! One of our favorites. Kim and I took it all in, lying on the rocks to feel the water fall and the warmth of the rocks.

Why Sandpoint Stands Out

Schweitzer Mountain — Idaho’s largest ski resort

Schweitzer offers 2,900 acres of skiable terrain in winter and chairlift rides, hiking, and mountain biking in summer. It’s one of the region’s premier four‑season recreation hubs.

Lake Pend Oreille — one of the deepest lakes in the U.S.

This massive, crystal‑clear lake is perfect for boating, kayaking, swimming, fishing, and sunset cruising. Its mountain backdrop makes it one of Idaho’s most beautiful natural settings.

Outdoor adventure in every direction

Sandpoint sits between the Selkirk and Cabinet Mountains, offering hundreds of miles of trails, alpine lakes, mountain biking, rock climbing, and winter backcountry terrain.

Charming downtown with arts, food, and local culture

The historic downtown area is filled with indie shops, cafés, breweries, and restaurants. The town also has a thriving arts scene, including the Panida Theater and multiple festivals.

Festivals & events year‑round

From the Festival at Sandpoint (summer music) to Winter Carnival and Lost in the ’50s, the town celebrates constantly.

Scenery that feels untouched
